8 FAQs About Flushable Sanitary Pads

Periods are a normal part of life, but managing them shouldn’t be complicated. One of the most common frustrations is disposal especially when bins aren’t nearby or the environment is a concern. That’s why Anabio created India’s first flushable sanitary pad. Since we launched, many of you have had questions, and we’re here to answer them –

1. What material is the pad made of?

The pad is made from plant-based, biodegradable materials. Some components dissolve in water, others disintegrate and decompose naturally. It avoids synthetic plastics or hidden pollutants.

2. What if it clogs my toilet?

The pad is specially designed to disintegrate quickly in large volumes of water with strong flow, such as in toilets. It has been tested across different plumbing systems and was found to cause no clogs, unlike the conventional sanitary pads with layers of plastic that usually block pipes causing a problem.

3. Will my period blood affect the pad’s dissolvability?

Not at all. On an average, the amount of blood that women bleed in one menstrual cycle is 30-80 mL which is nowhere near compared to the litres of water the pad requires to get dissolved.

4. How long can I wear the pad?

Same as regular pads. No difference. But it is recommended to change the pad every 4-6 hours to maintain optimal hygiene and comfort.

5. Are there any instructions to be followed while I flush it?

Yes, very simple.

Step 1: Drop the used pad “straight” in the toilet with the bloody side facing the toilet. Do not roll or fold the pad.

Step 2: Wait for 30 seconds.

Step 3: Flush once. In case of weaker plumbing systems with low water pressure, flush up until the pad disappears from the toilet.

That’s all it takes for the pad to dissolve, disintegrate and disappear.

6. Will the pad cause any rashes?

The top sheet material that has been used in the pad is plant based and similar to the material used in baby wipes. While no product can guarantee zero chance of rashes, especially for extremely sensitive skin, the risk is much lesser compared to the conventional pads.

7. Can I choose to dispose of it instead of flushing it?

Yes, you. While the whole idea behind the design is to eliminate the hassle of disposal, it can still be disposed of and here’s why: The conventional pads take centuries to decompose, these pads decompose at a much faster rate making them eco-friendly as well.
